New Year New Goals!

I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday! I wore my hair natural for Christmas and straight for New Years. I may not wear my hair straight for a long time so New Year's may mark the date of the last time I see my here because I'm going back in the bon mot in a little bit. I'm trying to reach that new goal of waist length so I have to be on my grind.

I've been very busy this holiday season but just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and happy new year. I've been lazy with my hair but not in a very damaging way. I still co-rinse and I'm still very gentle.

Dark Skin Bright Color?

Quick blog. Just had to write that I'm going through changes. Good changes. One being color. Now listen, I've been wearing the nude lip way before it was popular. Mostly because as a dark skinned chick I was afraid to play with color. I only ventured away from the nude lip to go darker brown a few times, that's how boring I was. So naturally I'm ready for a drastic change.

So I decided to get some color in my life. I'm still in the experimental phase but I've learned a thing or two from YouTube divas. One is get a few lip liners to make all things possible. So I'm messing with medium and dark brown liners as well as purple. I use the purple to offset the pink lipsticks I bought and the browns for everything else.

My Favorite Conditioners

This is a blog on my hands down favorite most moisturizing conditioners. I'm talking addiction here!

Now understand that I have used most of these while relaxed, texlaxed, with new growth, and over a year and 1/2 of new growth.

I've co-washed/co-rinsed with them. I've conditioned with them. I've even used them as leave-ins too! So they've been been put to the test.

1) Suave Professionals Almond And Shea Butter: I think this might just be my #1 fav! I just wish they'd sell it by the gallon. I'm long turn transitioning from texlaxed to natural and all of my hair adores this. My hair is still soft a day later from using this. I'm just amazed.

Top Foundation Makeup For Ebony Women

If you are an ebony woman that has been round and round trying to find your perfect shade of foundation then this is the blog for you. Here is my list of top, looks like skin, foundations for women of color.

Before I begin I must stress that it is important to know your skin undertone. While we as a people like to use terms like "red boned" to describe a lighter skinned woman that is not always accurate. A light skinned person like Jennifer Lopez could be more olive or yellow undertoned while Azealia Banks could be way more red in her undertone.

A good way to tell is to turn your wrist so that your palm is facing the sky. Then look at the veins in your wrist.

If your veins look Blue or Purplish Blue then you have cool undertones.
If they look yellow or Olive/Green then you have warm undertones.
If you see both then you are neutral.

Makeup YouTubers I Adore!

I love makeup tutorials and info! There is always something new to learn. So I felt I should share my absolute go to favs! Please, rate, comment, and subscribe to their channels. Share their videos, like them on Facebook, and follow them on Twitter. They won't do you wrong, I swear.

First up is GossMakeupArtist. What? A white dude? Yes, this guy knows his stuff! I came across him a year ago searching for makeup for women of color and he had a great video on using more than one shade of foundation on ebony (as he so sweetly calls it) skin tones. So he knows his stuff regardless of skin tone. I love, love, love him! I just subscribed to him under my new account (linked to my twitter account and this blog).

Making Your Wig Look Real!

Don't want to look too "wiggy"? Don't leave the house before trying this. These are a couple of techniques I learned (mostly from YouTube. Don't you just love YouTube?!) for making your unit look much more real. Only I added my own little twists to their techniques.

The first one is the artificial part. Now most people (if they have a lace front) just bleach the knots (turn the wig inside out and apply bleach). However there is a technique that works well on both skin top and lace front wigs. As a matter of fact I'm demonstrating on how to create this optical illusion on a partial skin top (meaning it's part full).

First you want to use a powder close to your skin color. You can use eyeshadow or face powder. I'm using my Mac powder for this unit.
