Happy New Year Happy New Hair!

Been a long time no right! Not because I didn't want to but because I was very busy doing a bit of home remodeling. Now that it is cold I can sit and focus a bit on blogging.

As for my hair, well, back in October I cut about two inches off just cuz my ends seemed to be a bit broken. Not sure how I did that but it happens. The months that followed I did twists with synthetic hair and buns. Not much else, however I did keep up with my protein treatments! I would do one a month (Aphogee) and periodically would spray silk protein mixed with Infusium 23 on my ends for strength.

Fast forward to the first week of January. I decided I needed to see what was going down on my head so I flat ironed. I had the intent to trim but to my surprise, not only did I not need a trim but I was scrapping waist length. Scrapping it but not full like I want. I dusted my ends instead. Then washed and used Aphogee 2 min followed by a moisturizing conditioner. Then put my hair in 2 strand twists (with the root braided).

My goal for the next few months is to not disturb my ends with a comb nor brush more than 2x and to co-wash and deep condition in my twists. I've done this before when my hair was shorter and it worked well. However, every 3rd week I will have to do a check to make sure my hair isn't starting to dred.

I have also been spraying my roots with a simple mix of water and peppermint oil (pharmaceutical grade) for nice circulation because I can massage too much. And I've started back on my sulfur mix. I still baggy my hair with the sulfur mix on my scalp and wash it out the next day. I am VERY careful about washing it out because left over sulfur caught in braids and or twists CAN cause hair breakage. It is simply fertilizer for my scalp! I think doing it 4x a week is always where my hair thrives.

As for oil. I've been putting plain old conditioner on my twists after washing/co-washing them and locking in the moisture with avocado oil. The oil has the same properties of coconut and absorbs nicely leaving soft but not oily the next day. Oh and I scruch  my ends while damp so they curl up holding my twists well.

So basically I am in protective style mode. And yes I will bun the hell out of my twists most of the time. They look pretty good when I rock my fake afro puff on the top of my head. Right now I'm just looking for a few half/whole natural hair wigs to rock with it to switch it up and I'm set!

As for internally what I'm rocking with is:
Back on my super B complex. Was sick a week ago and learned my lesson by not keeping up the vitamin (and vitamin c for that matter).
Back on Bamboo silica  herbal supplement 300mg. Always does my hair, skin, and nails well.
Back on any hair, skin, and nail pills with biotin. That is more for my skin than my hair. I'm acne prone but never break out on biotin.
Back on my MSM kick! This is a two part need!  Pt. 1: my hair gets so soft while on it. Pt. 2 because I am planning on working out (running and weights) starting in February, and MSM seems to help me keep the body aches away from starting over a new.

That is it on the update front. I'm going to look for the only pic I have of my hair flat ironed (right before I washed it) and date it. Then take a picture of my two strand twists to update this post. Man, wait until you see the crazy damn shrinkage! In the mean time in between time I'm going to try to update you with some protective style choices for anyone needing to give their hair a break but still stay fly. And I have some product reviews as well. I usually wait to $o product reviews because I need to use something for a minute before telling anyone about it. Dueces✌

Heated Gelatin Protein Treatment

By request from user Jamaican Rose, I'll right out this simple (dirt cheap) recipe for a fairly strong  protein treatment.

Have you done your strand test this month?

It is much easier to find out why your hair is breaking than guessing and buying a bunch of products you don't need.

The point of a strand test is that hair breakage is normally caused by two things.

1) The lack of moisture in hair
2) Damage to the protein of the hair.
You need to also know the porosity of your hair because it can affect how a product works in your hair.

Hair Stuff That Is The Truth

Was talking to my friend the other day about things I've done to my hair the past 6 months. I chose to use some thing that may be less common in most hair conversations outside of maybe hair boards, but are the truth. He is a quick list of things I swear by.

1) EGG HAIR MASK: You can apply it strait to the hair or mix it into a conditioner. If you apply it straight don't apply heat and rinse with cool water ONLY. Some people separate the yoke from the white as one strength ends while the other gives off great shine. I don't separate. I find it comes out great by just adding an egg to moisturizing condition. Kind of feels like Aphogee 2 minute that way giving you soft yet strong hair. I leave it in for an hour.

Small Hair Update

Okay, so I'm WSL... But not FULL waist length yet. I cut my hair right before the summer to help hurry along this transition and to allow my hair bulk to move downward (where the thickest part of my hair ends). My hair grows in this "V" shape due to my crown growing the fastest. This is not a real issue other than the last 2 inches remain thin for a few months.

Lowering The PH Of My Shampoo

Just a short blog to talk about playing with the PH of my shampoo (or rather shampoos I have purchased that I could tell were off in PH). I've been up on the PH info since 1999. I don't talk much about because so many other bloggers do. I figure I'd be beating a dead horse. I figured today I'd let you in on how I get around the issue.

First Attempt At Homemade Protein Treatment

What is that green, alien-like, goo in that bowl?

Jello!

I know, let me explain.
