"Setting an EXAMPLE is not the main means of influencing others; it is the ONLY MEANS."- Albert Einstein
My Hair Bible follows my trials, tribulations, and triumphs with my African textured hair.
I try to tackle myths, and put myself through tests and experiments in an effort to separate fact from fiction.
This is all in the hopes of spreading a new knowledge about healthy, yet simple hair care to our community.
I will always strive to be as detailed as possible yet clear to bring readers easy solutions to caring for African textured hair.
Here I share my tips, and tricks for obtaining healthy hair in hopes of helping at least one person on their healthy hair journey.
I pray that if at least one thing I have written works for them that they pay it forward.
My Spring/Summer Hair Regimen
Co-rinse (meaning I rinse my hair with water in the shower. apply conditioner to my hair. let sit a minute or two. Comb hair with conditioner IN. Then comb hair AS I rinse it.) daily in 4 ponytails with Aussie Moist Conditioner, Tresemme Silk Protein & Collogen Conditioner, or whatever cheapie conditioner I can find that gives me great slip.
Brush or Comb hair back under running shower water into a ponytail or two. Two strand twist it.
Apply leave-in like VO5 Strawberries And Cream or Suave Humectant Moisture (yes plain old conditioner) to ponytail and edges. Seal with coconut or olive oil mixed with castor oil.
Add a dab of Dax Lanolin to my very ends (and edges), comb and pin ponytail into a bun. Last, apply Proclaim Aloe Gel, La Bella Level 9 (or 10) gel mixed with oil, or Eco Styler Olive Oil gel to edges. Then apply a satin scarf to air dry. Baggy my bun: placing a plastic shower cap or lunch bag over my bun. Then covering it with a scarf..
At night, apply sulfur & peppermint (sometimes I add a tablespoon or two of castor oil), or sulfur 8 with added sulfur & castor oil mix to scalp. Cover with plastic cap or bag, and scarf. Leave on overnight and rinse out in the morning. Note: I do this step 4-6 days a week.
Shampoo 1-2x a week or as needed with a PH balanced shampoo like Sally's Salon Care Shampoo or Aphogee Deep Moisture.
Deep condition with a moisturizing conditioner once a week.
Protein treatment every 4-6 weeks. 6-8 if I use henna.
Bun EVERYDAY! Baggy bun a few times a week and/or rock a phony pony/bun/afro puff over it from time to time. Wear a half wig with headband (no leave out) if it's not too hot.
