Makeup YouTubers I Adore!

I love makeup tutorials and info! There is always something new to learn. So I felt I should share my absolute go to favs! Please, rate, comment, and subscribe to their channels. Share their videos, like them on Facebook, and follow them on Twitter. They won't do you wrong, I swear.

First up is GossMakeupArtist. What? A white dude? Yes, this guy knows his stuff! I came across him a year ago searching for makeup for women of color and he had a great video on using more than one shade of foundation on ebony (as he so sweetly calls it) skin tones. So he knows his stuff regardless of skin tone. I love, love, love him! I just subscribed to him under my new account (linked to my twitter account and this blog).

Making Your Wig Look Real!

Don't want to look too "wiggy"? Don't leave the house before trying this. These are a couple of techniques I learned (mostly from YouTube. Don't you just love YouTube?!) for making your unit look much more real. Only I added my own little twists to their techniques.

The first one is the artificial part. Now most people (if they have a lace front) just bleach the knots (turn the wig inside out and apply bleach). However there is a technique that works well on both skin top and lace front wigs. As a matter of fact I'm demonstrating on how to create this optical illusion on a partial skin top (meaning it's part full).

First you want to use a powder close to your skin color. You can use eyeshadow or face powder. I'm using my Mac powder for this unit.

Top 3 Best Vitamins/Minerals For Hair Growth

#3 Biotin: Best taken with B 100 and 1000 mcg of vitamin C (to avoid acne).

#2 MSM - A great mineral that can be taken in pill or powder form. I would avoid taking it in doses over 1000 mg due to a possible side effect of extending the length of a period (does not happen to everyone but some experience it at high doses.). Those without this issue (I've never had it) can take more.

#1 Silica - A mineral we are born with an abundance of that drastically decreases as we age and it shows. Best taken in bamboo (aka bamboo extract) or diatomaceous earth form as they have more silica with much less side effects.

Getting My Oily/Acne Skin Care Game Up!

I have been slacking on the skin care a bit which caused a minor breakout that is just now drying up, and a tiny bit of eczema to pop up. So here is how I'm fighting back!

Acne Game:

Benzol Peroxide Cream 10% - using it daily and loooooading that bad boy up on any zit. Trust this works to kill it in 24-48 hours. No lie!

Protective Style Files: Wigs, wigs, wigs!

I just have to make a note of these gorgious wigs! I've looked at so many wigs this past week, from every collection, and I swear these take the cake (course I haven't looked at full lace wigs or anything. I'm just trying to get use to lace fronts. They are a bit irritating on the skin.).

Before I get into it I just have to thank all of the beautiful ladies on YouTube for schooling me on what's hot, what's not, and how to improve your wig. I learned so much over the course of a week. Don't sleep on those ladies. Go to Youtube, type in wigs (lace, full, or half) then comment, rate, and subscribe :o)

The first wig is Tori by Freetress Equal. She's a lace front with a baby hair hairline. Now the hairline is a bit curly but it's nothing a flat iron can't fix as this unit is heat safe (under 400 degrees). It retails for around $34.00 I adore this wig!

Protective Style Files! Getting My Wig Game Up!

Gala wig by Freetress
I just realized that I haven't bought a wig in 2 years. I'm so behind on what's hot now. So I decided to give my hair a rest by putting it in 8 block braids that I will co-rinse (rinse with conditioner) 4x a week, and redo on Sundays (Note: I'm still using my sulfur oil too). This will allow me creative freedom, and to up my wig game.

Now, I'm picky as hell when it comes to wigs so I had to do my research before I dove head first into it. After a few days of researching websites, YouTube videos, and head shapes (no, I'm not joking.) I've narrowed it down to my top must have wigs.

She's Edgy, She Leaves Conditioner In Her Hair

That's right, I use plain old conditioner as a leave-in. No shame in my game! This one craaazy step has allowed me to retain a butt load of length with hardly any split ends.

As you may have read in my hair bible series, years ago I picked up Oprah's stylist's book. In it he says that store leave-in conditioner is simply watered down rinse out conditioner.

I began to connect the dots with similar stories I'd heard about women of color growing their hair to great lengths by simply washing then leaving the conditioner in their hair(often sealing it with oil.).

I had nothing to loose so I thought I'd try it. Now I am officially hooked. Here are some of my favorite rinse out conditioners to use as leave-ins.

My Favorite Deep Conditioning Mix

My hands down, favorite, deep conditioner mix has to be:
  • 1/3 can coconut cream or milk
  • 1/3 cup conditioner (I like Aussie moist or 3 min., Motions Moisture Plus or Silk Protein, Cholesterol, or Suave Professionals.)
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 3 tablespoons of honey
  • *Optional: 2 tablespoons glycerin
  • *Optional: Pinch of salt
Mix well. Apply to hair. Cover with a plastic cap. Cover the cap with either a thick scarf, knit cap, or towel. Leave-in for 45 mins. Rinse.
